Social Injustice. A concept of fair and just relations between the individual and society, as measured by the distribution of wealth, opportunities for personal activity, and

social privileges. This week I am going to talk about a social injustice that involves the environment, the Flint water Crisis.

In 2014, the environmental injustice in Flint, Michigan began.

In transferring the water from Detroit to Flint river, due to cost-saving methods, Substandard treatment to the water

resulted in health issues for the people of flint, Michigan. These awful issues were overlooked and put to the side by the government. The contaminated water was found to have heightened people's blood lead levels and raised many questions on how this water impropriety was even allowed to

happen.

This cris obviously involves science. It's a huge environmental crisis that needs an explanation. The money spent on this was about $450 million overall. The lead percentage in the water after testing was completely unhealthy. Lead consumption to the human body can affect the heart, kidneys, and nerves. A lawsuit charged that the state wasn't properly treating the water. This led to switching the water source and closer monitoring of the water.

This problem has been slowly resolved. The water is much cleaner now and is now well within federal and state standards for lead. It wasn't an easy process, though. No one would own up to the problem, and a lot of denying was happening. This created a bigger problem then should have been.

The method they are using to cleanse the water is replacing the old lead service lines with copper

pipes. Residents are also advised to use filters on their taps to ensure their safety and health. This is how they dealt with the crisis but alot of science testing andmoney went into fixing the problem.

This crisis falls within social injustice because it was unfair treatment and caused a huge heath crisis. It was unfair that they wouldn't own up to the problem and that they caused this because of inadequate traetment to the water. They should have addressed the issue instead of pushing to the side. They could have minimized the issue by this.
